N55 Powered E46 M3 Race Car For Sale

Note from builder
Purchased as an accident damaged road car, work quickly started on stripping out every inch of carpeting and panelling from the E46 chassis. The next step was seam welding the chassis and fitting a racing approved, roll cage manufactured from Chrom Moly. The result was an extremely stiff chassis. Now the real work began on building the car up from the ground.

Owner sourced a N55 335i engine and 6 speed gearbox which he kept standard. Because BMW is already a high spec car he felt no need at this stage to modify the internals. Fitted to the motor is a Borge Warner turbo with custom exhaust manifold. Probably the biggest upgrade to the standard engine’s performance is the Motec engine management system. Motec is the system used worldwide on high end race cars and although it comes with a fat price tag it really is a league apart from most others.

Boosted low, the car makes 360kW on the wheels and can be increased up to around 500kW, but the owner realises that for now that’s ample power and besides the engine is less stressed and more reliable in this format. He also uses standard pump fuel for the car which has an aluminium tank with surge tank and high pressure pump located in the boot.

Standard suspension geometry was used and fitted with 2-way adjustable AST springs and shocks and together with Michelin slicks the car performs impeccably on track according to the owner.

“It’s so much more stable and responsive than my old 328,” says the owner  “it’s really impressive the way it just goes through corners.”

The car is fitted with 18inch 10J BBS rims and wide 355 slicks all round.

All the cooling components like oil cooler, radiator and intercooler were custom made for the car and so too was the racing bodywork. The steel roof was replaced with a carbon fibre panel and fenders, bumpers, bonnet and boot lid are all GRP panels bringing the total weight of the car without driver to a little over 1200kg.

Stopping power is provided for by locally manufactured Powerbrake discs and calipers – 6 pot up front and 4 pot at the rear.

It seems that the owners decision to build a new car is starting to pay dividends already. He has taken his Zwartkops lap time down to the low 1:04 and says that the car is capable of a low 1:03 or possibly a 1:02 in the right hands.
